The Polaris-Smart Fiber Optic Sensor

The Polaris-Smart fiber optic sensor is a complete sensing solution that starts at the measuring point and finishes by delivering digital data and alerts. Our fiber optic sensors are used for vibrations, accelerations, pressure and temperature sensing. As all our products, it uses photons (i.e. light), which makes it intrinsically safe and operational in many harsh environments.

Product description

The Polaris-Smart fiber optic sensor starts at the measuring point and finishes by delivering digital data and alerts. The Polaris-Smart sensor is composed of:

  • 1 unit-Polaris Smart sensor with 5m long optical link
  • 1 Edge Controller
  • Edge Software: local user interface, edge data processing features, data visualizer & recorder

It includes a connectivity API to link to your acquisition system or data platform.

We provide an optional cloud interface for dashboarding and alerts.

Benefits of our photonic technology

Pure photonics, Intrinsically safe for many harsh environments

Using photons (i.e. light) instead of electrons, photonic sensors are intrinsically safe and operational in harsh environments.

Monitor your assets at their core

Very small and light, the sensor head of the Polaris-Smart fiber optic sensor is the best fit for in situ monitoring of assets and processes.

Fiber optic cable: non-conductive, low loss, no repeater needed

The optical link between the edge computer and the sensor itself is made of conventional optical cable what offers:

  • Intrinsically safe for harsh environments
  • Availability in different material and length to match multiple applications needs
  • Capability to locate the edge controller out of the harsh environment
  • Low Loss, no repeater needed
  • Accessories available (feedthrough, connectors)
The technology of the Polaris-Smart sensor is unique in the sense that it uses a standard light source. Creating a new paradigm in photonic sensing:
  • Affordable light source
  • Production using traditional semiconductor fabrication is within reach

Smart and user friendly

Embedded analytics & predictive maintenance features

Our sensing solutions goes beyond capturing data and offers top notch embedded predictive maintenance features.
Thanks to our unique combo of hardware and software, the Polaris-Smart fiber optic sensor makes live detection of abnormal behavior possible for applications that had no solution so far.
We compute in live “on the edge” 64000 points recorded/sec, providing features such as:

  • Real time spectrum analysis (FFT/ PSD)
  • RMS value
  • Average
  • Filtering
This makes possible to detect abnormal behavior in very challenging processes.

Configurable digital output

Miraex Edge Controller comes with a web browser based user interface. It allows you to configure the Edge Controller connectivity but also gives you access to a simple visualization of the measured data as well as their recording. It’s also possible to connect our edge to our cloud Miraex cloud making the Polaris Smart sensor a standalone remote monitoring solution.

  • Collection of processed data via multiple protocols (TCP/UDP, MQTT)
  • Miraex cloud available
For customers looking for a Cloud solution, Miraex has developed this option. When the sensor is connected to the internet, the following basic features are available out of the box:
  • Collect & store measurement data from Edge Controller
  • Dashboarding (realtime + history) & alerts
  • API access
